The design shear strength, $\phi_{v} V_{n}$ , and the allowable shear strength, $V_{n} / \Omega_{v}$ , shall be determined as follows:

(a) For all provisions in this chapter except Section G2.1(a)

$\phi_{v}=0.90$ (LRFD) $\quad \Omega_{v}=1.67$ (ASD)

(b) The nominal shear strength, $V_{n}$ , shall be determined according to Sections G2 through G7.
