The effective length, , for calculation of member slenderness, , shall be determined in accordance with Chapter C or Appendix 7,

User Note: For members designed on the basis of compression, the effective slenderness ratio, , preferably should not exceed 200. Furthermore, the slenderness ratio of the member as fabricated—taken as the fabricated length of the member divided by the least radius of gyration of the section—preferably should not exceed 300.
User Note: The effective length, , may be determined using an effective length factor, , or a buckling analysis.
