C-DCommentary — Chapter D Design of members for tension

Chapter D includes the following major changes and additions in this edition of the Specification:

• (1) Table D3.1, Cases 5 and 6, for round and rectangular HSS have been revised to include provisions for longitudinally loaded welds whose length is less than the distance between the welds and to improve accuracy.
• (2) Section D5 has been revised to permit pin-connected members with pins 3 in. in diameter or larger to use an increased hole size.

The provisions of Chapter D do not account for eccentricities between the lines of action of connected assemblies.
