PDF page 352 · AISC 360-22

Equation A-8-3

The B1B_{1} multiplier for each member subjected to compression and each direction of bending of the member is calculated as follows:

B1=Cm1αPr/Pe11B_{1}=\frac{C_{m}}{1-\alpha P_{r} / P_{e 1}} \geq 1

Equation A-8-4

Cm=0.60.4(M1/M2)C_{m}=0.6-0.4\left(M_{1} / M_{2}\right)

where

M1M_{1} and M2M_{2}, calculated from a first-order analysis, are the smaller and larger moments, respectively, at the ends of that portion of the member unbraced in the plane of bending under consideration. M1/M2M_{1} / M_{2} is positive when the member is bent in reverse curvature and negative when bent in single curvature.

Formula 3

, Pr=Pnt+PltP_{r}=P_{n t}+P_{l t} ) in Equation A-8-3.

Pr=Pnt+PltP_{r}=P_{n t}+P_{l t}
