The lateral-torsional buckling modification factor, CbC_{b}, for nonuniform moment diagrams when both ends of the segment are braced is determined as follows:

Cb=12.5Mmax2.5Mmax+3MA+4MB+3MCC_{b}=\frac{12.5 M_{\max }}{2.5 M_{\max }+3 M_{A}+4 M_{B}+3 M_{C}}

where

  • Mmax= absolute value of maximum moment in the unbraced segment, kip-in.  (N-mm) \begin{aligned} M_{\max } & =\text { absolute value of maximum moment in the unbraced segment, kip-in. } \\ & \text { (N-mm) }\end{aligned}
  • MA= absolute value of moment at quarter point of the unbraced segment,  kip-in. (N-mm) \begin{aligned} M_{A} & =\text { absolute value of moment at quarter point of the unbraced segment, } \\ & \text { kip-in. (N-mm) }\end{aligned}
